Competencies and references

I am a graduate of the English Studies at the University of Warsaw, and a graduate of Psychology at the same university. During the studies I participated in several translation courses. Moreover, I completed Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Studies in Translation and Interpreting organized by the Institute of Applied Linguistics of the University of Warsaw. Apart from developing my translation skills and improving English, I also concentrated on mastering the Polish language – I finished an Editing Course devoted to the Polish language standards and stylistic editing offered by the Association of Polish Editors.
Since 2003, I have been translating texts from English into Polish and from Polish into English, as well as proofreading, revising and editing such texts. I have been cooperating with major Polish and foreign translation agencies, publishing houses, and individual customers. This cooperation has allowed me to complete projects for the most prominent international customers, including: Google, Lego, Warner Bros., Chello Zone, Nikon, Danone, Knorr, Hill’s, Philips, Siemens, HTC, Ernst&Young,, Novotel, Royal Caribbean, Deere & Company, Covidien, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Sanofi-Aventis, Johnson&Johnson, Bayer HealthCare, GlaxoSmithKline, General Motors, Renault, Suzuki, Mazda, Continental and many more. I have also translated five books and several other literary works and articles for university and commercial publishing houses. You can find examples of my translation projects in the descriptions of my specialization fields.
Whenever possible, I use specialist software tools (including Trados and MemoQ), which allow me to maintain consistency of wording and terminology, thus increasing the quality of the final product.

Selected references:

I provide professional translation from English into Polish and from Polish into English. I always pay special attention to grammatical and terminological correctness. I approach every text in an open and creative way to render not only its meaning but also its tone and goals that its author wanted to achieve. If the deadline allows and there are no confidentiality restrictions, I ask a specialized proofreader to review the translated text in order to eliminate all the mistakes and improve the quality. I specialize in the following fields:

Marketing and advertising

Advertising campaign materials, presentations, media releases, catalogues, websites, market research texts, surveys, advertisements and commercials themselves, medical marketing materials (information brochures for patients, texts promoting medicinal products and medical devices, etc.).

Corporate documents

Proofreading, editing and revising

Apart from translation into Polish and English, I also perform quality checks of other people’s translations and provide quality enhancing services. I use my extensive experience gathered during the years of ceaseless reviewing of documents in order to find all mistakes and oversights, as well as during specialist courses that taught me what to look for. Below you can find a short description of each of the mentioned services:
Proofreading is a process that involves scanning the text for typos, spelling, punctuation and grammar errors. During proofreading translation is not being compared with the source text (if it exists).
Revising is a process whereby the translated text is being compared with the source text in order to ensure that the translation is complete and accurate, as well as to eliminate all kind of errors, including linguistic, terminological, and factual ones.
Editing is a quality enhancing process that adjusts the text to the goals it is meant to achieve, like promoting a product or reaching a certain target group. The role of editing is also to eliminate the source language interference and make the text read as if it were prepared by a native speaker of the target language.

I compose advertising, promotional and information texts. I produce both short notes and longer articles on topics related to my fields of specialization (marketing, advertising, tourism and travel, corporate culture, human resources, psychology, sociology, literature, film and culture)

Polish language training

I love to share my knowledge of the Polish language with those willing to learn. I offer Polish language standards training for all who want or need to improve their linguistic competencies – front office workers, telemarketers, sales representatives, trainers, rookie translators, etc. During theoretical and practical classes, I discuss most common mistakes, new linguistic tendencies, use of loanwords, inflection issues, and selected spelling and punctuation challenges. The scope and length of the training is individually tailored to your needs.
